The basic itinerary for a visit of Como “Old Town”; from the lake to PortaTorre tower and back!
You can easily start from Tempio Voltiano (with Museum of Alessandro Volta) and have a look to the Monumento ai Caduti (War Memorial), that is an example of Como rationalism.
From there move to the Diga Foranea (Dam) having a walk until the statue “Life Electric” from Libeskind.
Back to the city, passing through the “passeggiata Amici di Como” and to Piazza Volta with the statue of Alessandro Volta.
Have a look to the historical narrow street of Via Odescalchi, Via Vitani and Via 5 Giornate. Walk until PortaTorre that is the best witness of the middle age history of Como. Looking up to the hills, it is easy to see the Castel Baradello, called also the Stone Sentinel.
It is time to go back into the city, where you can get transported from the crowd through the main shopping roads until Piazza San Fedele and Piazza Duomo.
Before going to Piazza Cavour and look for a nice restaurant where to eat, don’t forget to have a look to Teatro Sociale and Casa del Fascio. Another example of the work of Giuseppe Terragni.
If you are planning to stay 1 full day in Como, you can have very nice walks (or take a bike from Como Bike Sharing Service) to Villa Olmo and/or Villa Geno.
